Name of the faculty: Dr Govindu Surendra, HoD
Since the inception of Sannapu Reddy Krishna Reddy Government Degree College, Gudur in the year 1965, the Department of History has been functioning as one of the core departments. The Department follows the curriculum approved by the Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and now Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore. The Department has endeavored to enlighten the students with a deep knowledge about the history of ancient, medieval and modern India and world in general, and Andhra Pradesh in particular. In its remarkable journey, the Department has been offering Undergraduate courses with great success.
The detailed account of the Department is furnished below:
a) Permission to Undergraduate course (B.A.): Government of Andhra Pradesh accorded permission to the Department of History to start Undergraduate classes (B.A) vide G.O. Ms. No. 2163, dated: 06th August, 1965 from Education Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
b) Affiliation: A Permanent (re-renewal) affiliation was granted to the S.V. University, Tirupati and now Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore in 1965 to till date.
c) With a vision to meet the new challenges of time and acquaint students to the vocational demands, the Department of History, S.K.R. Govt. Degree College was run during the period of 2015-18 a certificate course on Tourism and Travel management.
MISSION AND VISION:
In every sphere of human life, there is found to be a mission before it. Our Department has also a mission before it. It aspires to bring the benefit of our age-old knowledge domain to the day to day life of students and society in general.
FACILITIES:
The Department of History has well furnished classrooms for the B.A classes. A few of the classrooms are equipped with ICT tools.
The Department has a rich library with a total of 1206 books, journals and periodicals etc. Most of the resources are related to the courses taught by the Department, but the departmental library also holds a rich corpus of reference and scholarly resources as well.
The Department of History is also planning to bring a gamut of relevant e-resources closer to the learners from the current academic session.
STRENGTH:

➢ Strong student-teacher relations, mentoring etc.
➢ Regular Interactive sessions with learned scholars from the History faculty across South India.
➢ Imparting knowledge through holistic concepts and simultaneously giving practical implications through regular spot surveys, excursions etc.
➢ Forum for co-curricular activities.
OPPORTUNITIES:
• Increasing growth of enrollment in the subject is encouraging.
• Preferred avenue for civil service, State Services like APPSC, Police Department and other allied services along with vocational demands in tourism sector, Archaeological sector.
